We are a referral service, and here is exactly what that means
Most sites in this trade are vague about who is actually going to turn up at your house. This page exists so that there is no version of using this site where you are surprised by the answer.
What happens to what you tell us
- 01You describe the faultFive questions. Service, symptom, urgency, ZIP, and whether you own the property. Then your name and a phone number.
- 02It is written down and keptYour request is stored, along with the exact consent wording you were shown, the time, and the address it came from. That record is why we can tell you later who received your details.
- 03Independent contractors receive itContractors covering your ZIP get your request. They are not employed, supervised, or controlled by us. We check what we reasonably can and we are not a licensing body.
- 04They contact you, not usYou will hear directly, usually the same day. You compare, or you decline all of them. Nothing obliges you to hire anyone.
- 05A contractor pays us for the introductionThat is the entire business. If you hire nobody, we are not paid, and you are still not charged.
Why we can publish prices when contractors will not
A contractor who publishes a number has to honour it, or explain why not while standing in your driveway. Most would rather keep the number until they have seen the door, and some would rather keep it until they have seen what you will pay.
We are not quoting you, so we have nothing to protect. We can publish what other people have already published, name them, and date it. That is a low bar, and it is remarkable how few sites in this trade clear it.
Common questions
- Do you ever do the work yourselves?
- No. Not sometimes, not through a subsidiary. We have no technicians, no vans, and no trade licence. Every job is done by an independent contractor you contract with directly.
- Who pays you?
- Contractors, for the introduction. You are never charged anything by us at any point, and we take no percentage of the work.
- Can I ask you to delete my details?
- Yes. Call or email and we will remove them. If your details have already gone to a contractor we cannot delete their copy for them, but we will tell you who received it so you can ask them directly.
- How many contractors get my details?
- More than one, so you can compare. That is the reason to use a referral service rather than calling the first result. It also means you should expect more than one call.
- Are the contractors licensed and insured?
- We ask for it, and we do not knowingly pass work to anyone who cannot show it. But we are not a licensing body, and you should still ask to see it yourself before anyone starts work. Anyone reputable will show you without being pressed.
